Slip streaming can be defined including updates patches or service packs  into the installation files of their original software. The major benefit of slip streaming is that  the resulting files will allow a direct installation of the updated software. So you can say that here we are creating our customized installer.

When you try to install Windows XP on a laptop that comes with Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation you may find an annoying message ‘Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer’. This error happens because your new computer has a storage controller that is not supported by XP. So we can also integrate the storage drivers into your XP installation CD.

So now we know that Slip Streaming may come handy in various situations but how we are going to do that. It may sound a little tricky but if you know the right trick it’s not as tricky as it seems. And when you are here you may rest assured that all tricks are at your finger tips. So just be cool and let me explain.

The trick is quite simple. All you need is your XP installation CD and a software called nLite which you can get here. nLite allows you to integrate service packs and hotfixes from Microsoft directly into your windows distribution files without having to re-download and install them every time you need to re-install windows. You can also remove unwanted components like Internet Explorer in your custom installer.

Slip Streaming Windows So just start this application and select the location of your Windows installation files. Typically you will insert your Windows CD and will point out to that location. after this you’ll see different options regarding customization and integrations. So select your desired options and once you think that you are done then you can burn your iso file. Now when your customized Windows installer is ready you can make your bootable CD and it’s done. Easy but useful! That’s exactly my mantra-don’t be too complicated but still be good.
