Good evening guys. I must be crazy writing this post on the eve of a crucial Semester Exam. But I simply love blogging than writing the damn question paper. So here I am with a command which I bet most of you won’t be aware of . Ya guys commands like cd mkdir are known to everyone but there are a number of commands we don’t bother about. But here we’ll see them in action.

Verify Integrity Of Password Files

To verify the integrity of password files like /etc/passwd /etc/group and /etc/shadow we use pwck command. It performs following checks-

  • Correct number of fields
  • Unique user name
  • Valid User and Group identifier
  • Valid Primary group and home directory
  • Valid login shell

Here is a sample screen-shot of sample output of pwck command.
